Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 8/12/2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Lynchburg Soap Company ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you visit or make a purchase from lynchburgsoapcompany.com (the "Site"), shop at one of our retail locations, or visit us at a farmers market or event.
PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Device Information
When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. As you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically collected information as "Device Information."
We collect Device Information using the following technologies:
- Cookies are data files placed on your device that often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, visit https://www.allaboutcookies.org.
- Log files track actions occurring on the Site and collect data including your IP address, browser type, internet service provider, referring and exit pages, and date and time stamps.
- Web beacons, tags, and pixels are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.
- Onsite behavior tracking from our email and text message platform. We use Klaviyo, which sets a first-party cookie to recognize returning subscribers and record which products and pages you view. This allows us to send relevant follow-up messages, such as a reminder about a product you looked at but did not purchase.
- Advertising pixels from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google, which record page views and purchases so we can measure how our ads perform and, where permitted, show you relevant advertising.
- Platform and analytics cookies set by Shopify, which power our store, shopping cart, checkout, and order fraud screening.
- Email and text message engagement tracking. Our messages contain small image pixels and tagged links that tell us whether a message was delivered and opened, and which links were clicked.
- Functional and accessibility cookies set by apps we use to operate the Site, which remember settings such as accessibility display preferences and subscription selections.
Order Information
When you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site or at one of our locations, we collect information including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information, email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as "Order Information."
We do not store complete payment card numbers. Card payments are processed by our payment providers, described in the Service Providers section below.
Marketing Information
If you choose to join our email list or text message program, we collect your email address, your mobile phone number, and a record of your consent, including the date, time, and method by which you signed up. You may provide this information on the Site, at checkout in one of our stores, or at a farmers market or event.
When we refer to "Personal Information" in this Privacy Policy, we mean Device Information, Order Information, and Marketing Information together.
HOW WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We use Order Information to fulfill orders placed with us, including processing payment, arranging shipping or pickup, and providing invoices and order confirmations. We also use Order Information to:
- Communicate with you about your order or your account;
- Screen orders for potential risk or fraud;
- Provide customer service and process returns and exchanges; and
- When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, send you information about our products, sales, and events.
We use Device Information to help us screen for potential risk and fraud, particularly your IP address, and to improve and optimize the Site, for example by understanding how customers browse and interact with our store and by assessing how our marketing performs.
We use Marketing Information to send you the email and text messages you have asked to receive, and to keep an accurate record of your communication preferences.
SERVICE PROVIDERS WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH
We share Personal Information with companies that help us operate our business. These companies are permitted to use your information only to perform services for us, not for their own independent purposes.

- EasyScan supports our inventory and order fulfillment operations.
- Shopify Flow is a first-party Shopify tool we use to automate internal order and inventory tasks. It operates within Shopify and does not transfer information to any outside company.

- Google provides analytics about how visitors use our Site and delivers advertising. https://policies.google.com/privacy. You may opt out of Google Analytics at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram) provides advertising and measurement tools that record activity on our Site to help us measure and target our advertising. https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy

We may also share Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant, or other lawful request for information, or to otherwise protect our rights, our customers, or the public.
TEXT MESSAGE (SMS) MARKETING
If you choose to opt in to text messages from Lynchburg Soap Company, we collect the mobile phone number you provide, your consent record (including the date, time, and method by which you opted in), and information about how you interact with our messages, such as whether a message was delivered or whether you clicked a link. You may opt in through the Site, at checkout in one of our stores, or at a farmers market or event.
We use this information to send you promotional messages about our products, sales, events, and store news, and to send transactional messages such as order and shipping updates.
We will not share your text message opt-in or consent status with any third party for purposes unrelated to providing the messaging service. We may share this data with vendors who help us deliver text messages, including platform providers and phone companies. We use Klaviyo as our messaging platform; you can read about Klaviyo's privacy practices at https://www.klaviyo.com/legal/privacy-notice.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message from us. You can get help by replying HELP or by emailing us at info@lynchburgsoapcompany.com. Opting out of marketing text messages will not affect transactional messages related to an order you have placed.
Additional terms governing our text message program are set out in Section 20 of our Terms of Service, available at https://lynchburgsoapcompany.com/pages/terms-of-service.
ADVERTISING AND YOUR CHOICES
As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with advertising or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you. To learn more about how targeted advertising works, you can visit the Network Advertising Initiative's educational page at https://thenai.org/about-online-advertising/.
You can limit interest-based advertising through the following tools:
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram): open Accounts Center from your Facebook or Instagram settings and adjust your ad preferences at https://accountscenter.facebook.com/ad_preferences
- Google: https://myadcenter.google.com
- Microsoft and Bing: https://account.microsoft.com/privacy/ad-settings
- Digital Advertising Alliance (multiple companies at once): https://youradchoices.com/control
- Network Advertising Initiative: https://optout.networkadvertising.org
- Mobile apps: https://youradchoices.com/appchoices
These opt-out tools are managed by third parties and their web addresses change from time to time. If a link does not work, search for the company's current advertising or privacy settings page.
WE DO NOT SELL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we have never done so.
We do use analytics and advertising tools, including those provided by Google and Meta, that share information about your activity on our Site with those companies so we can measure and target our advertising. Some state privacy laws define this kind of activity as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, or as "targeted advertising," even though no money changes hands. You can opt out of this activity using the tools listed in the Advertising and Your Choices section above, or by using the Global Privacy Control signal described below.
GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL AND DO NOT TRACK
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a signal that certain browsers and browser extensions send on your behalf indicating that you do not want your personal information sold or shared for advertising. When we receive a valid GPC signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising, and we apply that request automatically. You do not need to contact us or fill out a form.
Do Not Track (DNT) is an older browser setting that was never standardized and that most browsers no longer support. Because there is no common agreement on how DNT signals should be interpreted, we do not respond to them. We do honor Global Privacy Control, as described above.
YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS AND CHOICES
Privacy laws vary by state and by country, and the specific rights available to you may depend on where you live. Rather than distinguish among them, we extend the following rights to all of our customers:
- Access. You may ask us what personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. You may ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Deletion. You may ask us to delete your personal information, subject to the record-keeping obligations described in the Data Retention section below.
- Opt out of marketing. You may stop receiving marketing messages from us at any time.
- Opt out of targeted advertising. You may use the tools described above, or send us a Global Privacy Control signal.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@lynchburgsoapcompany.com or write to us at the address at the end of this policy. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not treat you differently or provide you with a lesser experience because you exercised a privacy right.
How to opt out of our marketing
- Email: every marketing email we send contains an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it removes you from marketing emails immediately. You may also email us and ask to be removed.
- Text messages: reply STOP to any message from us.
- In our stores: if you joined our list at checkout in one of our stores or at a farmers market, you can ask any team member to remove you, or use either method above.
Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional messages about an order you have already placed.
If you are located outside the United States
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information in order to fulfill contracts we have with you, such as when you place an order, or otherwise to pursue the legitimate business interests described above. Please note that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Our Site and our products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not direct any of our marketing to children. We do not knowingly enroll anyone under 18 in our text message program.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@lynchburgsoapcompany.com and we will delete it.
DATA RETENTION
We keep your Personal Information only as long as we need it, or as long as the law requires.
Order records. Tennessee law requires businesses that collect sales tax to keep complete records of their sales for three years from December 31 of the year in which the associated tax return was filed (Tenn. Code Ann. § 67-6-523). Federal tax rules impose similar requirements. Because of this, we cannot delete order records inside that window, even at your request. After the required period has passed, we may retain order history for our own business records unless you ask us to delete it.
Marketing information. We keep your email address, mobile number, and consent record for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or reply STOP, we keep a minimal record of your opt-out so that we can honor it and avoid contacting you again. That record is retained indefinitely for that purpose.
Website and analytics data. Device Information collected through cookies and analytics tools is retained according to the retention settings of the platforms described above, generally between 14 and 26 months.
SECURITY
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information, including using a hosted commerce platform that maintains PCI DSS compliance for payment processing and encrypting information transmitted through our Site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
CHANGES
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
